Full-time Positions

Exemption Specialist - Sarasota/Venice

A full-time position performing a variety of exemption-related functions to assist customers in reviewing records, and securing information that pertains to Exemptions, Portability/Save Our Homes cap, and other office functions. Has a desire to learn and grow.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Complete Homestead Exemption application based on customer interviews and web-based applications
  • Explain how Save Our Homes/Portability apply
  • Participate in fraud investigations
  • Explain state law associated with exemptions and determine what exemption may apply to applicants
  • May work at alternate locations, as needed

Knowledge and Skills required:

  • Strong people skills – patience & listening skills
  • High level of detail and accuracy
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Multi-tasking abilities
  • Effective oral and written communications
  • Ability to learn new programs quickly

Minimum qualifications:

  • Valid Florida driver's license
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills – Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point

Other skills and experience desired:

  • Associates degree and/or 2 to 5 years of paralegal or title experience preferred

Residential Field Appraiser - Sarasota/Venice

A full-time position that involves moderately complex work in gathering data for appraisal analysis and preparation to determine values for tax roll and VAB. 

 

Duties include but are not limited to:

Inspecting of property, determining characteristics, reviewing and verifiying permits, measuring/sketching residential properties, establishing quality grades and effective age, and communicating with taxpayers to explain valuations.

 

Knowledge & skills:

  • Knowledge of construction materials and/or property inspections experience
  • Appraisal knowledge to include understanding of quality grades and effective age
  • Must be computer literate in use of MS Excel and Word, and use of office CAMA systems and GIS technology
  • Able to provide examples of decisions made and judgment used
  • Working knowledge of geometry
  • Position requires:
    • strong written and verbal skills,
    • creative problem solving skills,
    • excellent customer relations

 

Minimum qualifications:

  • Possess a valid Florida driver’s license
  • Impeccable organizational skills and time management
  • High level of detail and accuracy
  • Associates degree or equivalent work experience
  • Three or more years of appraisal experience

Commercial Appraiser - Sarasota

A full-time Appraiser II or Appraiser III position (depending on qualifications and experience) in the Commercial Department.  We are seeking a motivated, self-starting individual eager for a new challenge.

Job duties include:

  • Property inspections to verify characteristics and update changes resulting from building permits.  Produce sketches from blueprints and on-site measurements. 
  • Qualify sales and verify purchase prices and terms.  Verify property characteristics for sold parcels.
  • Complex tasks involving collection and analysis of data relating to the appraisal of commercial and industrial property, multi-family, and vacant land.  This includes income and expense data, cost data, and comparable sales analysis.
  • Appraise assigned property classes for annual reassessment.
  • Review and complete all in-person, written, and electronic inquiries from taxpayers with minimal supervision.
  • Research, prepare and present assessment reviews for Value Adjustment Board hearings through verbal testimony in accordance with office policy, Florida statutes, and accepted appraisal practices with supervision and assistance from the Department head.

 

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Economics preferred Combination of education and appraisal experience commensurate to a degree may be considered.
  • At least 3 years’ experience appraising commercial property, mass appraisal experience is preferred
  • Valid Florida Driver’s license
  • Proficiency using MS Word and Excel, Marshall & Swift

 

In addition, preference will be given to applicants with more experience and education, including advanced appraisal courses. Also preferred are:

  • State Certified General Appraisers license
  • Professional Designation such as MAI, ASA, or CAE
  • Mass Appraisal of commercial property experience
  • Familiarity with using internet resources such as CoStar

Starting salary $48,000 - $60,000, commensurate with experience
